Adwords Campaign

Posted by DelB @ 2:51 pm, July 29th, 2006

Launched the adwords for PromotingLondon.com today, as in the past I prefer a Saturday start as it tends to allow a couple of quiet days to engage in fine tuning. Perhaps due to the hot weather and being the middle of the summer holidays there has been remarkedly little search traffic, even on the highly competitive keywords. I will decide on when to issue the press releases depending on how the adword campaign develops over the next couple of days.

A Quick Thank You

Posted by DelB @ 4:35 pm, July 27th, 2006

In re-reading Trickle Down I realised that I had forgotten to say a big thank you to Arun & Abhishek at WordSiteBuilder.com for supplying and installing the script which powers the word cloud here. It was they who took the original word cloud ideas that were being promoted & pushed elsewhere and developed what, to my mind, is a far better product for those of us intent on giving our clients a promotional opportunity that really could fulfill its promise. They providing much needed contextualisation in the relationship between the link words and the search engine priorities. If you are interested, their very own cloud resides at 97tags.com alongside a very informative blog on the process.

Thanks Gentlemen,
DelB

Trickle Down

Last year it was Pixel Ads, this year it seems it will be Word Clouds, the latest, greatest, can’t fail marketing technique designed to advance the websites we manage or promote. Except, so it seems, these perfectly valid and useful techniques become so quickly devalued that the users whose business should benefit most are left with crumbs in return at best. When Alex Tew came up with milliondollarhomepage.com last year and vaulted off his small corner of the internet and into the spotlight of the traditional media, could any one begrudge his success and earnings? After all, he had come up with a truly original [well, close enough] idea that broke new ground in terms of internet promotion. So what happened? We saw all manner of copycat sites springing up, ten-dollar-this, 5-cent-that, all bright & shiny under new domains and promising massive visitor numbers. Yet less than a year later who would possibly consider buying some pixels from one of these sites? In the overwhelming majority of cases, nothing has been done to develop the sites further to either encourage visitors or increase the standing of the site with search engines [which would increase the value of the incoming link to the advertisers website]. Instead, the people responsible have long since moved on to marketing the next fad, more glistening domains. Realistically, the only people to have benefited are the top level marketeers who quickly developed versions of the software necessary to create pixel ad sites and sold on the packages to the second & third level marketeers.

Now we are at the beginning of the word cloud / tag phenomenon, the big guns were out early convincing their peers, associates and affiliates [do I not like that word] to purchase links in their clouds, followed shortly by the opportunity to purchase the software itself at oh so beneficial prices for the early birds. Soon, the sky will be filled, yet not much nourishing rain will be falling on the plains of client sites below because those clouds need seeding and let’s face it, not too many cloudbuilders are interested in hanging around long enough to carry out the work required.

Is PromotingLondon.com going to be different? In 3 words, I hope so. It has been set up to not only host the word cloud site on the front page but as the nexus to provide a developing resource for promotional ideas and products primarily for the benefit my existing clients’ websites and businesses. The aim is medium to long term benefit, adding content and visibility, building popularity and pagerank as we go.

Regards for now, Delb

Directories, Directories, Directories.

London has more than a fair share of local online directories to consider listing in, not forgetting the usual suspects in national and international terms. Is it worth the time and [sometimes] money submitting your site to them all? Are there great variances in value of individual directories dependent upon the nature of the content of the submitted site? Over the next couple of weeks I intend to trawl through the stats of the websites I manage to see which directories work best for whom and if any underlying patterns emerge can inform future choices.

Has anyone done similarly recently?

A Word Hyperlink System [also called word clouds or word tags] is the first commercial offering available from promotinglondon.com. Word Clouds are the very latest in marketing techniques and are creating a real buzz on the network. They can provide an extremely affordable, search engine friendly method of gaining incoming links to your website along with a consistent stream of visitor traffic over the medium to long term.

Promotinglondon.com are pleased to be able to offer this product to the London market, backing up the launch with a series of press releases, while providing continuing support to the feature through the further development of the promotinglondon.com website.

I hope you will find time to check it out and consider the investment possibility thoroughly.

What am I doing here?

If, like me, when you’re faced with the multitude of marketing & promotion products and ideas which purportedly will do wonders for the level of visitor traffic arriving at your website, alongside the latest sure fire method of getting top ranking in the dear old search engines, you may recognise a certain dizzy sensation when trying to decide how best to use the minimal budget available for a website promotion campaign.

It’s a significant part of my responsibility to find the best value for my design clients, whether it’s a new site launch or campaign for an existing site. Frankly, promotinglondon.com has been set up to allow me to offer them useful & affordable products not available elsewhere in the London market. That’s not to say that (1) all promotional ideas and products on the site will involve expenditure, in fact, far from it and (2) products and opportunities offered here will only be available to my design clients - I foresee that in the vast majority of instances they will be available to allcomers.

As to keeping this blog, it’s a good way to announce upcoming promotions, it will enhance the visibility of the site itself therefore helping the promotional aspects [at least I’m being honest here] and lastly, it will allow me somewhere to pontificate on the good and bad of the online marketing industry.

I hope you will stick around & join in,

Regards, DelB
